As part of a strategic focus on promoting health equity, The National Home Infusion Foundation (NHIF) recently adopted standardized categories for race and ethnicity data collection and is encouraging all providers to include voluntary questions to capture this data. NHIF will utilize this data throughout its projects to evaluate equitable access to infusion treatments in alternate sites.
Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA.), one of two pharmacists in Congress, penned an op-ed, “Four years later, Medicare policy is still failing home infusion therapy patients” recently published in The Hill. The article highlights flaws in CMS’ implementation of the Home Infusion Therapy Services benefit that is limiting access to these services.
On April 19, 2022, Baxter announced a supply disruption of the ExactaMix valve sets (ExactaMix 1200 Valve Set H938792 and ExactaMix 2400 Valve Set H938724) due to raw material constraints that are impacting production volumes. As a result, healthcare providers and institutions are driven to consider conservation measures when compounding using the ExactaMix Automated Compounder.

CMS issued the Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies (DMEPOS) final rule and is not finalizing its interpretation of the “appropriate for use in the home” requirement in the definition of DME as it applies to certain external infusion pumps.
