The Foundation has adopted the Poster Session at the NHIA Annual Conference as part of its efforts to advance NHIF’s mission of promoting investigator-initiated research related to home and specialty infusion. NHIF will award a $1000 scholarship to the individual practitioner author who submits an abstract that best meets the following criteria:
In addition to the cash award, the winning author will receive support for developing a manuscript for publication of their research in INFUSION magazine, as well as complimentary registration to the next year’s NHIA Annual Conference.
2024 NHIA Annual Conference
The finalists presented an overview of their research project and summarized their findings during a special clinical webinar so a panel of judges could select the award recipient. The winner of the Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award was announced at NHIA’s Annual Conference in Austin, TX. Industry abstract submissions are not eligible for the NHIF award program.
NHIF recognized outstanding research among more than 30 abstracts presented at this year’s conference. Yoselin Flores, a PGY-1 Resident at Option Care Health was selected as the winner of the NHIF Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award for her poster, “Use of a Lipid Screening Tool to Identify Patients at Greater Risk of Infusion Reactions to Lipids in the Home Setting”.
The winning abstract, which includes $1,000 grant and the opportunity to publish a full manuscript in Infusion Journal, must be relevant to a current challenge, issue, or question facing the infusion industry; employ an effective study design/methodology to achieve results; and have the ability for expansion into a larger study.

Kassie Klasen, PharmD from M Health Fairview was selected as the winner of the NHIF Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award for her poster, “COVID Sequelae: Evaluation of the Effect of Treatment on Healthcare Utilization and Health Status in the Months Following COVID-19 Infection”.
The winning abstract, which includes $1,000 grant and the opportunity to publish a full manuscript in Infusion Journal, must be relevant to a current challenge, issue, or question facing the infusion industry; employ an effective study design/methodology to achieve results; and have the ability for expansion into a larger study.
NHIF is proud to announce that the recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award (OAAA) is Cheyenne D. Johnson, PharmD from Option Care Health.
Johnson, a pharmacy resident at Option Care Health in Lincoln, Nebraska, received the award for her poster titled, “An Investigation on Empiric Vancomycin Dose Reduction in Home Infusion Patients to Optimize Patient Safety.” Her poster examined whether empirically reducing vancomycin correlates with decreased incidence of acute kidney injury as patients transition from acute care to home infusion therapy. As the winner, Johnson will receive a $1,000 scholarship, an opportunity to develop her findings into a manuscript for publication.
NHIF is proud to announce that the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Abstract Achievement Award (OAAA) is Christina Ritchey, MS, RD, LD, CNSC.
Ritchey, a dietitian and clinical program manager for Optum Infusion Pharmacy, received the award for her poster titled, “Is My Patient Non-Compliant or Do They Have Low Literacy Skills? A Case Report”. Her poster examined the effect of low literacy on a patients’ ability to comply with instructions provided as part of their home and specialty infusion treatment and identified alternative methods patient education can be provided to improve outcomes.
As the winner, Ritchey will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and an opportunity to publish her findings in a future NHIF Research Supplement to INFUSION magazine.
