MIPAA Provisions of Interest to the Home Infusion Therapy Community

The Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) which became law on July 15 contains provisions in many different areas of the Medicare program.  Some areas of change which may be of interest to the home infusion therapy community are:

  • Medicare competitive bidding program, DMEPOS reimbursement, and supplier accreditation.
  • Pharmacy reimbursement under Medicaid.
  • New requirements for Medicare Advantage Private Fee-For-Service and Special Needs Plans.
  • Prompt payment by Prescription Drug Plans and Medicare Advantage-Prescription Drug plans under Part D.
  • Requirements on formularies used by Part D drug plans.
  • Incentives for electronic prescribing.
  • Chronic kidney disease provisions.
