Items of interest to home infusion therapy providers
The Medicare Improvement for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA) which became law on July 15 contains provisions in many different areas of the Medicare program. Some areas of change which may be of interest to the home infusion community and patients are listed next.
- Medicare competitive bidding program, Part B reimbursement to home infusion and other providers, and quality standards.
- Delay to pharmacy reimbursement cuts in Medicaid using Average Manufacturing Price.
- Financial incentives and penalties encouraging physicians to submit prescriptions electronically.
- Requires prompt payment to pharmacies on Medicare Part D claims.
- Requirements on formularies used by Part D drug plans.
- New requirements for Medicare Advantage Private Fee For Service and Special Needs Plans.
